Featured ArticleI don't know about you but a trip to my happy place --- the beach, any beach --- sounds pretty good right now!
Between work and getting ready for the holidays, these past few weeks have me feeling extra grateful for my personal mindfulness practices.
The truth is, "mindful parenting" isn’t just about our kids. It’s about us too --- filling our cups and being regulated so that we can tend to our lives and the ones we love.
Did you know that Mindful Parenting practice can actually help you avoid feeling burnt out or overwhelmed?
It makes sense that we would get as much out of mindful parenting practices as our kids, but it feels like an important point to make anyway.
Here are a few practices you can sprinkle into into everyday life:
Breathing Exercises. Take a deep breath and count to 10 before you respond to a situation.
Teach your child the benefits of deep breathing during tense or frustrating situations.
Not only does deep breathing lower your stress hormone, it also gives you time to think before you react.
Engage Your Senses. Take note of the details in your surroundings. What fragrances do you smell? What do you hear?
Your senses help ground you in the present moment. Offer ways for your child to practice mindfulness.
Part of mindful parenting means teaching your child the basics of mindfulness too.
Meditation. Start your day with a daily meditation — or end it with a short reflection.
Meditations allow you to dedicate time towards thinking and being... and it doesn’t have to take long! Even a 3 to 5 minute meditation can go a long way in recharging yourself. Just stop what you are doing right now to close your eyes and breath.
You are meditating. :)
