6 ways to raise kind kids

Kindness. It’s at the top of our list when it comes to the hopes we have for our children. 

Research shows that when we shame, blame, or guilt children into kindness, or, quite the opposite, when we dangle carrots (aka external rewards) for caring, children begin to view kindness as a chore rather than a choice.

This week, I’m reminded of the power of listening over punishment by this video a member-mom sent in. It’s of her 4 yo who has been struggling with impulse control issues since her parent's recent separation. 

Instead of hitting mom or their dog as she had been doing, after a week with her SnuggleBuddies Emotions Plush, this child was able to name and share her feelings instead.

We can not threaten kindness into a child, or any human being for that matter, but we can nurture it. 

Change one child’s world for the better and then sit back and watch the ripples.
