We learn best when we have things modeled for us.
Yet, most of us grew up being told emotionally NOT intelligent things like:
👉 Stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about.
👉 Don't being shy. Just give him a hug.
👉 Sit still, be quiet. (aka "Don't be a bother.")
But look at how great we turned out?!! 😂
Joking aside, we ARE fabulous. I for one looooved my childhood... and yet, I see links between the messages above and things I struggled with as a new mom.
Things like:
- asking for help
- making mistakes
- not trusting my gut
- and too many other people-pleasing tendencies to list here
Thankfully, there's another way, and it doesn't require us to be "perfect".
In a nutshell? Positive parenting is more about self awareness (mindfulness) than it is about doing it "right".
