Totonaca Vanilla Powder
Our newest single origin offering is Totonaca Vanilla Powder, made from whole vanilla pods from Papantla, Mexico, the birthplace of vanilla. Believed to have been discovered and first cultivated by the indigenous Totonac people in this region, Totonaca Vanilla is intensely aromatic with notes of fruity cacao, sweet honey, dark rum and coffee-caramel.
To capture the full range of this varietal’s rich fragrance and flavor, the entire vanilla pod is sun-dried for several months to develop its aromatic complexity, then dehydrated fully and ground into a fine, easy-to-use powder.

Totonaca Vanilla Powder
Use Totonaca Vanilla Powder in recipes that call for vanilla extract, like baked goods, pancake batter or rice pudding. We also love it mixed into yogurt and oatmeal for breakfast, sprinkled into PB&Js, or in smoothies and morning coffee brews. To wow with extra-fancy desserts with minimal effort, use this vanilla powder to flavor whipped cream and cake frostings.

Each vanilla pod is the fruit of an orchid flower, hand-pollinated in the hours-long course of its limited bloom. From seed to harvest to curing, vanilla production is a labor-intensive process that can take up to three years to complete. Totonaca Vanilla carries an incredibly soothing and grounding fragrance, sitting heavier in its coffee-like notes than the brighter cherry notes of Nyanza Vanilla.
