DrFuhrman.com Hi James, With fall in full swing, it’s the perfect time to embrace seasonal foods that fuel your body with nutrient-dense goodness. Grocery stores are now stocked with vibrant fall produce, and each offers unique health benefits to keep you strong and energized as the weather cools. Here are some of my favorite fall foods and healthy living tips to make the most of this beautiful season. Our Fall Produce Picks 🍂🍎 Fruits: Apples: Varieties like Fuji and Gala are crisp and sweet, perfect for snacking or baking. Pomegranates: Known for their juicy, antioxidant-rich seeds, they add a tart flavor to salads and desserts. Persimmons: Both Fuyu and Hachiya varieties are in season, offering sweet, honey-like flavors. Kiwis: These small, tangy fruits are rich in vitamin C and fiber. Grapes: Late-season varieties are still available, providing a sweet and juicy treat. Vegetables: Broccoli and Cauliflower: These cruciferous vegetables are abundant and ideal for roasting or steaming. Leafy Greens: Kale and chard thrive in cooler temperatures, perfect for salads and sautés. Root Vegetables: Carrots, beets, and radishes are at their peak, offering earthy flavors for crudities with dip or salads. Winter Squash: Varieties like butternut, acorn, and spaghetti squash are versatile for soups, curries, and baking. Try baking butternut squash and adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or a drizzle of balsamic vinegar for a warming, delicious side dish. You can also stuff it with quinoa and veggies for a hearty, satisfying meal. Brussels Sprouts: These mini cabbages are flavorful when baked and topped with nutritional yeast or vinegar. Corn Fresh corn is a great source of fiber and magnesium, helping to support gut health and aid digestion. Corn is delicious this time of year just on its own. String Beans String beans are rich in antioxidants and vitamin K, which helps with bone health. Sauté string beans in garlic and a splash of low-sodium vegetable broth, then top with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added texture and a dose of healthy fats. How important is it to buy organic? These days, most people – particularly those who eat a plant-based diet – wonder if they should buy only organically grown fruit and vegetables. The answer to this question depends on a number of factors, including the consumer’s stage of life and more.  FIND OUT MORE: Read my blog, Should we only buy organic produce? [Here] https://shop.drfuhrman.com/foods/seasonings-and-spices/ Healthy Living Hacks for Fall 🍁 Batch Cook for Ease and Nutrition: As schedules get busier, take time to batch-cook soups and stews loaded with seasonal vegetables. Make extra portions to freeze, ensuring you have healthy, plant-based options on hand during the week. This saves time and keeps you on track with nutritious eating. Warm Up Your Greens: While salads are great, your body may start craving warmer foods as temperatures drop. Try sautéing greens like spinach, kale, or Swiss chard lightly with garlic and spices. Adding warmth makes them more comforting and easier to digest. Boost Immunity with Herbs and Spices: Seasonal spices like ginger, cinnamon, and turmeric are natural immune boosters. Add them to teas, smoothies, and even roasted vegetables to support your health. Consider making a warm turmeric latte to relax and enjoy the benefits of this powerful anti-inflammatory spice. Stay Hydrated with Seasonal Teas & Mushroom Beverages: It’s easy to forget about hydration in cooler weather, so opt for herbal teas to stay warm and hydrated. Rooibos, chamomile, and hibiscus teas are delicious, caffeine-free choices that also provide antioxidants. Or try our fan favorite Mushroom Chai for a delicious mushroom treat.
