Los Angeles has my whole heart. It is a city of extraordinary people and unending beauty, and the devastation of this past week has been so hard to comprehend. There is grief untold alongside deep gratitude for firefighters and emergency workers. And there is community—the strongest thread in this tenuous moment, as friends and neighbors and strangers on the internet come together to offer support.
When I dreamed up VIOLET GREY more than a decade ago, working out of a second-floor studio on Melrose Place, I imagined it being a resource, above all. That’s exactly what we hope it is now, too. Please send us an email at larelief@violetgrey.com if you have been displaced by the fires and are in need of complimentary essentials, like shampoo, deodorant, and body wash. We will be sure to set things aside for you at our Melrose Place store.
However much uncertainty lay ahead, let’s continue to take care of each other. Share resources, cook meals, give what you can. VIOLET GREY has made donations to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and Baby2Baby—two worthy causes among so many.
