Padilla La Pilar back story: Ernesto Padilla's father was Cuban poet Heberto Padilla who was imprisoned for criticizing Fidel Castro. His friendship with and reverence for Ernest Hemingway led Heberto to name his son Ernesto in honor of Hemingway. La Pilar was the name of Hemingway's fishing boat which was central to many of his famous hard-drinking, cigar smoking, and fishing exploits.
