Frank Morrison
The Black Moon Rising was the night we had all been waiting for—the moment the moon vanished completely, leaving the sky swallowed by darkness. No light. Just the stars above, barely enough to guide our way. It was the perfect cover to make our escape. The Tennessee River, flowing north, would carry us toward freedom. The current was with us, pushing us away from everything we had ever known. Our raft was crude—made of whatever we could find—but it was our only chance. Each stroke of the paddle was a step farther from the chains that held us.
We knew the risks. The hounds were close now, their barks breaking the silence of the night, searching for our scent. But on this night, with the Black Moon rising, we had a chance. The darkness hid us from the eyes that might be watching, and the river, strong and steady, was our ally. A woman, older than most of us but with a fire that matched any young heart, led us through the night. She carried a lantern that flickered with the promise of freedom, and her voice was steady, reassuring. She told us that the Black Moon was our moment—that it would conceal our path and give us the chance we needed to escape. If we stayed strong, if we kept moving, we would make it. Every moment was a prayer, and every stroke of the paddle was an act of defiance. We had nothing left to lose, and with the Black Moon rising, we believed freedom was within reach.SHOP NOWNight Court: The One (She Got Game) by Frank MorrisonNIGHT COURT: SHE GOT GAME
Frank Morrison
The sound of sneakers squeaking on cracked asphalt and the rhythmic bounce of a basketball echoed through the quiet streets of the inner city. She was a force on the court, no different from the boys she faced. With moves that flowed seamlessly from one play to the next, she had the speed, the precision, and the fierce competitive spirit that made her a standout in any game. Whether it was a fast break, a perfect crossover, or sinking a three-pointer, she could hold her own against anyone. She was tough, focused, and didn’t take a backseat to anyone—especially not on the outdoor courts, under the dim glow of flickering streetlights. The late-night games, with their raw energy and intensity, were where she thrived the most.
There was something about the night that made everything feel different—more alive, more urgent. She loved the challenge of playing under the stars, surrounded by the hum of the city, the crowd of players waiting for their turn, the whistle of a friend calling out plays, and the occasional shout of excitement from a killer move. The playground courts were her sanctuary, a place where the game was everything and the world outside faded away. It didn’t matter if it was midnight or 2 a.m., she was there, ready to hustle, her game sharpening with every shot, every pass, every dribble, proving time and again that no one owned the night like she did.SHOP NOWOur Time, Our Stories: The Future is Now by Frank MorrisonOUR TIME, OUR STORIES
