background:
Billy Davies entered the wine world as the son of Jack and Jamie Davies of Schramsberg, and as the godson of the legendary Martin Ray. He arrived in the Napa Valley in 1965 and was quickly immersed in vineyard life, picking grapes into wooden lug boxes, pruning vines in the cold dawn, and helping stack champagne bottles in hand-dug caves.
Billy later moved into sales, working with Southern Wine & Spirits, Beringer, Trefethen, and Cuvaison, before taking on the role of Director of Sales and Marketing at Schramsberg. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, he was no stranger to starting new ventures, including Origin-Napa, The Farm, and Mendocino Grove. He later taught wine business at Cal Poly.
Today, he’s back to where it all started with Billy D. Wines, a new wine business rooted in the vibrant Napa Valley of the '60s and '70s. He puts a focal point on forgotten grape varieties like Chenin Blanc, Carignan, Napa Gamay, and Charbono, sourcing from organic, old-vine vineyards on the North Coast. With a nod to the past, Billy D. Wines offers fresh wines for a new generation, built on the spirit of great times.
