For a company focused on slowing down and feeling cosy, things can move very fast at Piglet in Bed so I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for being part of our journey and to share some of what I’ve learned this year.

As we entered 2024, we had just opened our first ever store (in beautiful Harrogate) and I had just welcomed our little boy Max into the world. I knew this would mean a lot of learning on the job on both fronts and I was not mistaken!

Max hasn’t ever shown the remotest of interest in teddies or soft toys, but was immediately besotted with our new cuddly bear, Bennie!

Learning to be a mum:

Learning about being a mum has been intense and also fulfilling, sometimes terrifying and often hilarious. I am learning that I have much more capacity to love than I knew possible, that I am much more interested in cooking baby mush than adult food and that compulsively watching the baby monitor is an unhealthy habit. I am also learning that work can feel like a really fun, energising and creative outlet after a weekend of playgrounds and nursery rhymes. Finally - and perhaps most alarmingly - I learned that the urban legends about parents getting pregnant naturally very quickly with baby #2 after years of IVF can be true and we are now preparing to welcome another baby boy in February!

From signing off our new linen blend fabric at our Portuguese factory to seeing the final product captured on shoot, it's such a rush seeing our designs come to life!

Learning to take big leaps:

This year we made a big step to switch the production of all of our linen bedding to Portugal. As part of this project we introduced linen blends (a lovely soft mix of linen and cotton) to our range so as to offer an option at a more affordable price point. We also timed this switch to coincide with the introduction of our new Bundle Builder which makes it really fun to visualise your own mix and match bedding combos.

Operationally, this project was super complex but getting to see our team pull together to deliver it so smoothly was really fulfilling and has given us the confidence to take more big leaps.

From my first visit to Harrogate! We’d just launched our collaborative sleepwear collection with Morris & Co. - our windows always look beautiful, but this floral display was pretty spectacular.

Learning how to manage shops:

Over the course of the year we opened two more shops in Bath and Tunbridge Wells and all of our different departments have been learning how to adapt so as to offer our customers the best possible experience both in-store and online. We have learned loads about getting the right stock onto shelves at the right time, what kind of smaller pick-up items resonate in a shop context and what kind of events most excite our community of local customers. We know we are far from done learning and are always open to ideas and feedback if you have suggestions!
