Hi Glow Getter,
10 years ago, we were drinking a glass of wine and sheet masking after work when we came upon our a-ha moment. We grew up in Korea going to bath houses with our mothers and aunts, splashing milk and teas on the skin to tone and hydrate. Our grandmothers would rub chilled watermelon rind on our skin in the hot summer months of Korea to soothe heat rash. Skincare was a joyous, shared daily ritual.
We realized however for most, skincare was more of a chore. A lot of people felt overwhelmed and intimidated - and a lot of skincare was too serious or intimidating. Glow Recipe started with the mission to make skincare not only effective but also sensorial and immersive. And just as we bonded over our shared love for skincare, we wanted to create a global community of ‘skincare besties’ where everyone felt welcomed, seen and heard, wherever they were in their skincare journey.
It took over 1000 submissions to land on the formula of our very first product, the Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask (= AHA Night Treatment). We wanted to pair powerful fruit antioxidants with clinically effective actives to create a treatment that could both hydrate and gently exfoliate the skin. We also wanted a jar that was beautiful but sustainable, and created a glass mold that looked like an ice cube that was starting to melt - an homage to watermelon rind being used as nature’s ice cube to soothe our skin, all those years ago.
This same ethos continues to power all of Glow Recipe’s formulas and packaging today and it means the world to us to see your feedback and reviews. Many of you asked to bring back some of our products that we had launched in the past. To celebrate our 10 year anniversary, we are so excited to bring back another labor of love - the Watermelon Glow Jelly Sheet Mask, a translucent sheet mask made of cold-pressed watermelon, and drenched in a full bottle of watermelon-antioxidant serum. Each time the soothing, hydrating sheet envelopes our skin, it takes us back to those early childhood memories of family, ritual and being cared for - and we hope you love it as well.
10 years in, we know that this is just the beginning. We promise to continue to make formulas that deliver on both efficacy and sensoriality. We promise to continue to be a safe space for real skin acceptance and intentionality - never using language like flawless, poreless or perfection and showing real skin, as is, in our imagery. And most importantly, we promise to be your skincare bestie throughout your skincare journey. Thank you for being the most incredible community and for being part of this story together with us.
