Here's the great news about celebrating Advent, y'all ~ you don't have to belong to a particular denomination, you don't have to wear fancy holiday sweaters, and perfection is so not a prerequisite!
Advent is for ALL of us. And I think It’s especially meaningful for those of us who resonate with "the least of these," theme of the biblical narrative illustrated by those itinerate, illiterate, surely stinky shepherds (heavens to Betsy, they spent all their time outdoors with sheep so standing downwind from those fellas would make your eyes water!) whom God sovereignly chose to be the first guests to celebrate our Savior's entrance into the world in the form of a baby born in a barn.
Celebrating Advent may be a longstanding tradition for you and your family or maybe it's a new invitation to focus on what theologian John Nolland calls the "divine condescension" ~ when the holiness of God was distilled into a flesh and blood Messiah ~ into One who became like us in order to save us.
