The “coffee date" Costa Rican is back!

Last year, I loved the toffee and date flavors of this rich, sweet Costa Rican microlot (coffee date... get it??). This year’s lot brings a brighter, sunnier vibe, with notes of tropical fruit, orange zest, chocolate-covered almonds and a long, sweet finish like a Werther's caramel candy.

Tastes Like: Orange, Toffee, Milk Chocolate, Snickerdoodle

Curator’s Notes: Back for another Valentine’s Day! I fell in love with this Costa Rican microlot last year, and I was excited to see it return – and, if possible, even better than before. It's a lighter roast, but the profile is so robust and flavorful, I'd recommend it to medium-roast drinkers as well. There’s something so romantic about Costa Rican coffees, and I love this microlot’s citrus-zest opening, its honey-sweet body and really nice, brown-sugar sprinkled finish. This coffee tastes like someone stirred in a spoonful of caramel sauce and dark chocolate syrup after they brewed it — if you like a caramel macchiato from time to time (and don't we all?), this is the black coffee version for sure. Cerro La Cruz comes from the Tarrazu mountains, one of the top growing regions in Costa Rica, and Wisconsin-based Ruby Coffee Roasters was the first roaster in the U.S. to source coffee from this farm! This lot is direct trade and exclusive to Ruby.

Bottom Line: You’ll love this coffee if you love caramel sauce, single origins with mild acidity, and dark chocolate-covered almonds.
