One night, as a young girl slept, a spider crawled across her face, pausing for a few moments on her right cheek before disappearing. The next morning, she noticed a small red spot on her cheek. “Mom, what’s this?” she asked.
Her mother squinted at it. “Probably just a spider bite,” she said. “Don’t worry, it’ll go away. Just don’t scratch it.”
But by the next day, the red spot had grown into a painful boil. “Mom, it’s getting bigger and it hurts,” Emily complained.
“Sometimes that happens,” her mom replied. “It’s probably coming to a head.”
Frustrated and uncomfortable, Emily decided to take a long, hot bath to relax that evening. She dimmed the lights and lit a few candles around the tub, hoping the warm water would soothe her aching skin.
As she soaked, the boil suddenly burst. Horrified, Emily watched in the flickering candlelight as hundreds of tiny spiders poured out of her cheek. Their mother had laid eggs inside her while she slept.
